Awantipora, Sep 23: To foster a deeper understanding of Kashmir’s rich historical, cultural and archaeological heritage, the Habba Khatoon Centre for Kashmiri Language and Literature, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) organised an academic outreach programme for students to the ancient archaeological site of Burzahama on September 17.
The initiative was designed to provide students with an opportunity to engage with the historical and cultural dimensions of Kashmir through experiential learning and direct exposure to a significant archaeological site. The programme sought to enhance students’ awareness of the region’s civilisational legacy, community history and cultural heritage, while encouraging a greater appreciation of the significance of preserving and studying its historical resources.
The outreach programme was coordinated by Dr. Afshana, Head, Habba Khatoon Centre for Kashmiri Language and Literature, IUST. The participation of students, academic faculty and research scholars underscored the importance of integrating field-based learning with classroom instruction and scholarly engagement.
The visit to Burzahama provided an academic platform for students to explore the historical significance of one of Kashmir’s prominent archaeological sites and reflect on the interconnectedness of history, culture, heritage, and community identity.
